Robert took on the role of RSL National President after the former National President stood aside due to issues that arose surrounding Mr Rod White, which later resulted in the NSW Bergin Inquiry. The National Board of The Returned & Services League of Australia is to engage an external investigator to inquire into the circumstances surrounding the provision of gifts to former RSL National President, Rear Admiral (Retd) Ken Doolan AO, upon his departure from office in June 2016.

Overnight, after discussions with the Acting National President, Mr Rod White officially resigned from his position on the National Board.
