Pensions & Advocacy
If you are a current or former serviceman or woman who has sustained an illness or injury as a result of your service, we can assist you to claim your full entitlements under Department of Veteran’s Affairs legislation.
Most RSL Sub Branches throughout Victoria have trained volunteer Pension Officers who understand the unique nature of military service, and have experience in one or more of the following compensation jurisdictions:
- Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986
- Safety, Rehabilitation & Compensation Act 1988
- Military Rehabilitation & Compensation Act 2004
If you have submitted a claim and are dissatisfied with the result, our Advocates can investigate the case and provide advice on the merits of an appeal, as well as aid in representation to the Veteran’s Review Board.
Transition & Careers
The transition from military service to civilian life can be tough — if you are an ex-serviceman or woman struggling to find employment, RSL Victoria works with a number of organisations that offer assistance in CV development, interview technique, etc. Do not hesitate to contact us if you are in need of transition assistance.
The RSL supports our Veterans who wish to engage in various wellness or health programmes. We have recently endorsed a number of initiatives aimed at younger Veterans, including adaptive sports, outdoor activities and wellness retreats. Please contact us to discuss your initiative or programme ideas.
Volunteers work throughout the RSL in many and varying capacities that all, in their own way, make a valuable contribution to our ongoing mission. Our aim is to find a volunteer role that best matches your skills and experience ensuring the contribution you make is meaningful to both you and the RSL.
On days such as ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day, our nation unites to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served. However, for the members, staff and volunteers of the RSL, our dedication to the wellbeing of the defence community is not limited to a couple of days; it is a year-round commitment.
The RSL and its volunteers provide assistance to past and present service personnel when in need with a range of financial and non-financial support services. You do not have to be a member of the RSL to receive assistance; you only have to be a current or former member of the Australian Defence Force, our Allies, or a dependent of either group.
RSL Victoria takes its role as the custodian of Commemoration very seriously — if you wish to participate, please speak to us or your local RSL Sub-Branch about how you may become involved.
Our amazing Sub-Branches are integral to the local community. Numbering more than 280, there is an RSL Sub-Branch is almost every city, suburb, town and regional area of Victoria. For a full listing of Sub-Branches in Victoria, please visit rslvic.com.au/rsl-network
